Ribbon or Not

Many of the latest designs for wedding cakes includes a ribbon band which is placed around the base of each cake tier. Caution! the fat content which is in the icing will penetrate through the ribbon which will cause discoloration, therefore changing the color of the ribbon. If you choose any color besides black or red (red will also become a darker shade but will still remain red,) the true color of the ribbon will fade. D & D  Cake Designs highly recommend a fondant band. The fat content which is in the icing will not effect the band at all, allowing the true color to remain as you wish. There are grease proof ribbons that you may purchase on line but the colors are limited. So when wanting to choose ribbon for a base design for your cake, ask your cake designer about using fondant bands. Note : please view thewedding cake titled Cynthia in our wedding cake gallery.
